Desert Rose Leaves Turning Yellow

Desert Rose Leaves Turning Yellow

I have grown several desert rose plants in my garden, and I am in love with them. Last month, I noticed my Desert rose leaves were turning yellow.

Last year, many desert rose plants grew from seed on their own, and I haven’t had enough time to care for them all. Due to the lack of maintenance and care, I had to witness yellow leaves on my desert rose.

I have figured out what causes yellow leaves on my desert rose (Adenium) and managed to cure my plant. I am sharing the reasons and how to cure through this article.

When yellow leaves on a desert rose plant are normal

A few points you must know ( these might reduce your worry)

  1. If you notice yellow leaves on Desert rose in Winter, it is normal. Due to dormancy, this happens.

  2. After repotting your desert rose plant, it is normal to see the leaves turning yellow due to stress. Do not feed your plant at this stage.
  3. Due to heavy sunlight or heat, your plant will not be affected. Just water properly. Desert rose is a heat-tolerant plant.

Overwatered Desert Rose

In most cases, overwatering is the reason for yellow leaves. To be more specific, overwatering causes root rot. Due to root rot, the leaves start turning yellow.

This is a serious issue. It might kill the plant.

Is there any way to identify an overwatered desert rose plant?

The leaves will become yellow and mushy at the same time. I have seen wilting yellow leaves as well.

The leaves will start falling off like this.

Some other reasons

Due to improper nutrition balance in the soil, you may notice yellow leaves.

For example:

Lack of nitrogen or magnesium in the soil may cause this.

But have you noticed the purple edges along with yellow leaves?

That's due to a lack of phosphorus.

Feed your plant 10-20-20 or 5-10-10 fertilizer. (NPK ratio).

If possible, use foliar spray that contains magnesium and iron.

Now look at this picture below:

Those brown spots, along with leaves getting yellowish, might indicate multiple issues. Check the underside of the leaves for any pest infestations. If the brown part is mushy, it's again due to overwatering.

If you think that you are not good at caring for your plant, check this: grow and care for the desert rose plant (from seed).
