Yes, you can propagate False Aralia. You need patience for the propagation of False Aralia.
In this article, I will let you know how easily you can propagate False aralia from cuttings as well as from seeds.
scientific name: Schefflera elegantissima, formerly known as Dizygotheca elegantissima.
Propagation of False Aralia from cuttings
Step 1: Choose a healthy stem from the parent plant with no sign of disease. (Make sure it has several leaves)
Step 2: Cut a 5-6 inch (10-15 cm) stem. You can use a clean, sharp knife or pruning shears. Use alcohol or spirit to disinfect the cutting tool first.
Step 3: If you have any rooting hormone at home, you can dip the cut potion in the rooting hormone for 3 seconds. You can skip this step if you wish but I will recommend using it.
Step 4: In a pot take 60% garden soil, 15% organic compost, and 25% sand. Then dig a 3-inch hole with your finger and plant the cutting into the hole. Cover the soil well. If the soil has enough moisture, do not water it on the same day you plant the cutting. Water the next day.
Note: The pot should be small as the cuttings will be small here and the pot should have holes at the bottom.
Step 5: After 20 days, the newly grown roots will be stable. At that moment you can repot it in a larger pot.
The success rate is really high.
Rooting can take time, so be patient and monitor the progress regularly. You can see new leaf buds after 15 days if everything is fine.
Grow False Aralia from seeds
I will not recommend this one if cutting propagation is possible for you.
Collect Seeds: Collect fresh seeds from a reliable nursery (or a friend if possible). Fresh seeds have a higher germination rate. If you have a mature False Aralia plant already, you can collect seeds from it when they are ripe.
Sow the Seeds: Plant the seeds about ΒΌ inch (0.6 cm) deep and cover them lightly with soil. (You can see the soil preparation in the cutting propagation above)
Now just place the pot in a warm and humid place for 14 days. ( Avoid placing in direct sunlight)
That's it. After 14 days, you can expect the new seedlings. You can then repotting them easily.
Recently I have started Air Layering propagation on one of my False Aralia plants. I will write a separate article on that once I see the newly grown roots. (Hoping for the best)
