It all started with yellow spots and ended up with brown spots. I have multiple peace lily plants that I have been growing for a long time, both indoors and on the porch. Recently, I noticed some yellow patches on one of my peace lily leaves that gradually turned into brown spots or patches.
In this article, I’ll talk about the mistakes I made with my peace lily and how to get rid of the brown spots.
In my case, I firstly noticed yellow patches and then golden brown, and finally brown spots, just like this:
Note: If you see the brown spots like this, I am afraid you can not fix the affected leaves, but you can take some actions so that you don't have to see those spots in the future.

The newer leaves are green and healthy. I tried my best and succeeded.
Reasons for Brown Spots on Peace Lily Leaves
These types of brown spots are not due to any nutrient deficiency.
This is due to sudden stress, and there might be multiple reasons for that.
Mine was due to repotting and propagation.
In my previous pot, there was a baby peace lily plant attached to the mother plant.
I separated the baby plant from the mother, and while doing so, I had to cut the root. This caused stress to both the mother plant and the baby plant.
Note: When it's time to repot, make sure you do not disturb the peace lily roots.
Another reason is a sudden temperature change. If you expose your plant to cold or too much heat, the same kind of brown spots can be seen. This happened with my neighbour's peace lily.
If you notice, the green healthy leaves are losing their lush green color, and a yellowish color is appearing around the brown spots, apply a nitrogen-based fertilizer.
I started feeding my plant Dyna Gro for the last 3 months and am seeing a huge difference.
If you see brown spots directly without a prior yellowish stage, it might be due to any of these: Fertilizer burn, Chlorinated or hard water, and direct sunlight.
Tips for diagnosing your peace lily plant when you see the leaves turning brown or yellow
Yellow leaf + wilting at the same time, and the leaves are not mushy, it is due to underwatering. Water your peace lily and it will be all fine.
Whenever you see the leaves turning yellow with brown patches or spots, check the leaves with your hand. If the affected leaf is not mushy (instead, it feels dry), it is not due to overwatering. It might be either underwatering or nitrogen deficiency.
