If you are an avocado lover like me, you must be worried when you witness the leaves facing issues. About three months ago, one of the avocado tree leaves turned brown, and I managed to figure out the reasons behind it and how to cure it. This article is about how to treat avocado leaves turning brown.

It is necessary to understand the symptoms before jumping into curing it. I know it is frustrating to plant lovers and we usually get desperate to fix the issues.

Taking any curing step in a hurry can harm your plant.

Identify the actual reason behind brown leaves on Avocado and treat accordingly

You are growing this plant so you are well aware of the fertilization, watering, and other caring steps you are taking. This will be helpful in identifying the reason after I explain the reasons based on symptoms and caring methods.

I have created short information on this so that you can easily identify the reason based on what kind of brown leaves you are witnessing.

Brown tips on leaves Underwatering or low humidity
Brown edges with curling Salt buildup in soil or over-fertilization
Large brown spots Sunburn due to direct intense sunlight
Brown patches spreading Fungal infection like anthracnose
Entire leaf turns brown and dry Severe underwatering or root damage
Brown spots with yellow halos Leaf scorch or bacterial infection
Brown and mushy leaf sections Overwatering causing root rot

Another major reason is the chemical damage or over-fertilization. In this case, you will also notice leaves are curling and shrinking and then turning brown.

Stop using any chemical fertilizer for the next month. Instead use organic compost.

If you see something like this ( the leaves are getting brown from the edges ), this is the least worrying problem.

It's due to sudden climate changes and you do not have to worry much about this. It will recover gradually adapting the new climate.

If you see, brown dots on the leaves and they are getting bigger day by day, the most possible reason is: fungal infection like anthracnose. To treat this spray fungal spray for anthracnose fungus. (You can get it online or from local stores)

Do not forget to check the bottom side of the leaves.

You can see the browning spots are spreading like this.

It's not due to sunburn. It's a fungal infection.

If the leaves are not mushy, then water you avocado tree or plant thoroughly.

I have grown avocado in Zone 10 and it's common here due to warm climate. Too warm or too cold are not good for growing avocados.

Indoor plants generally faces this issue more than outdoor avocados.

If you are near coastal areas and somehow your area got flooded by saltwater, the leaves can turn yellow. Check: Prevent plants from flooded saltwater
